Our Impact

For more than 130 years, the Union Printers Home Foundation has dedicated itself to extending charitable aid to communities and individuals in need. Yes, you read that right—over 130 years of helping others!

Since its pioneering initiative in 1892, when it established one of the country's earliest centers for convalescent care and chronic illness treatment, the Union Printers Home Foundation has forged a formidable legacy in the nonprofit sector, extending to its present-day endeavors.

As of 2023, our philanthropic contributions and the resultant impact on communities across the United States amount to over $296,550,803. Here are a few illustrations showcasing our charitable endeavors in action:

The Original Home

The original “Home” or “Castle on the Hill” as referred to in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was a place where thousands of individuals received the care they desperately needed at no cost or a significantly reduced cost to the individual.

Round-the-clock care and support that was readily accessible in the skilled nursing facility. The facility boasted committed teams of healthcare experts who delivered individualized care customized to meet the unique needs of every resident. Whether it was aiding with daily tasks, managing medications, or administering specialized therapies, the original Home provided comprehensive care that was difficult to emulate in a home setting. This ongoing support guaranteed that loved ones received the necessary attention and medical oversight around the clock.

The well-being of individuals can be greatly affected by loneliness and isolation. The Home offered avenues for socialization and peer support, establishing a community atmosphere for residents. Through diverse social activities, and communal dining, the Home cultivated an environment where everyone could engage with peers, exchange stories, and build significant relationships. These social interactions enhanced emotional wellness, provided mental stimulation, and promoted overall happiness.

The UPHF Scholarship Program

Whether a student is thinking of the future, or a parent is thinking about paying for college, you can’t underestimate the value of our Scholarship Program.

The Scholarship Program serves as an invaluable resource that can alleviate some or all the expenses associated with attending college. For parents and students seeking financial aid, it can be a game-changer.

However, the benefits of a scholarship extend beyond just financial assistance. Here are some of the numerous advantages of our Scholarship Program:

  • With the escalating costs of education, many students struggle to afford their desired college. Some are compelled to work full-time to cover expenses, which may lead to unintended consequences.

This financial strain can be overwhelming, but scholarships ease the burden for both parents and students, granting them the chance to pursue higher education at institutions of their choice.

Every scholarship award, regardless of its size, contributes significantly. So, under no circumstances should an individual underestimate the value of any scholarship amount.

  • The college application process is filled with excitement. It's a time when every student should have the opportunity to pursue higher education and concentrate on their academic journey.

However, for numerous students, the pressures of balancing work responsibilities and earning funds for tuition hinder their ability to fully engage in learning. Scholarships alleviate this burden, enabling students to dedicate themselves to their studies, thereby enhancing their likelihood of persisting through college and graduating punctually.

Scholarship recipients experience reduced financial stress, gain additional study time, and bolster their prospects for success.

  • At the conclusion of their college journey, numerous students find themselves with student loan debt, often amounting to thousands of dollars. While loans are sometimes a necessity, graduating with an overwhelming debt load is far from desirable.

By the close of 2023, the Department of Education reported that 43.2 million Americans had some form of student loan debt, collectively amounting to over $1.6 trillion. Many students find themselves ineligible for federal aid, necessitating the reliance on student loans to cover college expenses.

The Scholarship Program provides an excellent avenue for accomplished students to secure funds for their education without the obligation of repayment. Scholarships remove financial obstacles, empowering deserving students to pursue their aspirations without being encumbered by the cost of education for years to come.
